Alternative condenser capsule for Samson Airline system

by Nigel McGill

Does anyone know if it is possible to modify a samson airline 77 saxophone mic (AH1) by replacing the condenser capsule with a better quality one?? I'm not sure if this is technically possible but the capsule seems to be the weakest point of this mic system. Thanks.

I replaced the capsule on a Samson Airline vocal system which has the exact same transmitter as your horn system. You will have to replace it with a dynamic mic (Maybe a AKG D-409). Most condenser mics will not be able to run off of the low voltage (1.5v) of the Samson transmitter. I replaced the mic with a Shure WH20TQG. I cut the 3 lead wire about 3" from the transmitter and soldered it to the Shure. I covered the splice with shrink wrap. You could also solder it directly to the pc board in the transmitter but you would need a magnifying lamp and very good soldering skills. derekslam@aol.com

Hi Derekslam. Thanks for your post. How has the new capsule changed the performance, sound etc?
