Electro Voice 670 Dynamic Mic

I just acquired an Ev 670, but it doesn't get any signal. I took the XLR connector apart and a piece of heat shrink fell out with some solder, which leads me to believe that the the internal connection is broken. My problem is getting into the enclosure because it is solid metal...any suggestions?
