Mic for use with Sony Handycam

by Debbie
(Southern WV)

I am a novice who is trying to record some oral histories. Sounds is a problem as recording environments are often noisy (such as homes). Can some of you pros suggest solutions that would work with the Sony Handycam? I had assumed a wired mic would be best but after reading some posts on this site, am wondering if there are wireless solutions available? I'll be honest...I don't know if the Handycam is powered or line-in only for the mic jack.

Thanks
