microphone audio on dvd karaoke player

i have just purchased a mr entertainer karaoke dvd player,works great except the microphones that plug into the player are poor on volume.the player plugs into tv via scart lead and sound is from the tv speakers,would it be better if i plugged in another amp from dvd player or from tv, because at the moment u really have to get your mouth right up against mic to get anything at all,which is not what i have experienced from other karaoke players! i hope you can help me out here CHEERS!
