Online Karaoke

I have recently started recording karaoke online. The site I use goes directly off of what your sound card hears. I have been using a cheap headset that I got at wal-mart but it is starting to give me problems especially if I have a powerful note. I am trying to figure out some kind of microphone that I can get and would prefer it not be a headset mic since they are so hard to get very far away from. I am completely lost on what to look for or where to look. I don't have a ton of money to spend for sure, especially since I'm new to this. Can anybody help me out??
