The Amazing Pen Microphone

The pen microphone is a very sensitive wired, which has a built-in high-gain preamplifier that disguised in an ordinary pen.
Thus, we can say that it is a modified ballpoint pen, which has been engineered in such a way that it is capable of holding a very sensitive omni directional microphone. This device can be connected to any type of recorder through a miniature amplifier and is able to pick up sounds up to a distance of maximum 40 feet.

This microphone has to be used in conjunction with a digital recorder or even a tape recorder. The pen microphone is ideal for covert recording. When you use a standard recorder you should pay attention where you place the recorder because if you put it in your coat or in a pocket, the ability of the mic to collect sound can be significantly reduced. However, you don’t have to worry about this when using the pen microphone.

The device is also designed in such a way that it can operate with all MiniDisc, DATRecords, Video Cameras or even personal dictation records that have plug-in power on their mic-in port. The mechanism of this mic is based on a low noise, high gain 2 stage PNP and NPN transistor amplifier, which uses a DC negative feedback through R6 in order to stabilize the functioning conditions very precisely.

The pen microphone’s output level is attenuated by P1 and, at the same time, the stage gain is reduced because of the increased value of R5. Because of the unusual connection of P1, a high headroom input is obtained, thus the mechanism is allowed to cope with a wide range of input sources (0.2 to 200m V RMS for 1 V RMS output). The pen microphone’s main purpose is to provide home stereo amplifiers with a microphone input.
