If your microphone lead has the right size jack at the end (a small jack) it should work. Just plug it into the microphone input on your laptop. However, microphones usually come with bigger jacks while the input on your laptop is usally small, so you would need a microphone jack adapter. Search for microphone jack adapter.

Can't hear mic on laptop by: Anonymous
I have a mic and an adapter and yet I cannot hear sound from the mic from my laptop. I have tried the volume control and looked under the sound and speech tabs in my PC startup. I can't figure out how to hear the mic.

Yes, what you are looking for are the RECORDING controls. From the volume controls, click on Options->Properties. In the new window, look for the line "adjust volume for" and select "Recording".
You should now be able to control the level of your input (Mic). Note that you might have a control called "Db boost" or "Gain Boost" that will strongly increase the signal.
