Using a USB microphone for PC Karaoke

I have a USB microphone I want to use with my PC karaoke software and channel it through my PC speakers but I don't know how. The microphone works with my PC recorder and records my voice, but my voice doesn't go through the PC speakers while the karaoke music is playing. I'm new to this so I don't know the technology or software or whatever that may be required. Can anyone offer some pointers?
