What microphone to buy?

I am looking at several mics for live performance but would like to be able to record as well with it.
I want a mic that will add warmth being as my voice is in the higher range (Freddie Mercury type) and need mids and lows.
I have been looking at the Shure Beta (and SM) 87A and Sennhauser e935.
Q: Which mic is the better and would suit my range...
Q: Is there another way to achive the needed phantom power for a condensor mic...such as batteries?
